What are the steps to produce metal cans with custom shapes?

The production process has four main steps: (1) Tooling & mold — select or custom-make a steel mold based on your 2D/3D drawing (typical lead time 15–25 days); (2) Tinplate cutting & forming — the 0.23 mm food-grade tinplate is cut and formed into the can body, lid and base; (3) Surface printing & coating — offset printing with CMYK or Pantone, plus food-safe inner coating; (4) Assembly & QC — curling, seaming, leakage test and final packing. For complex shapes like spheres or hexagons, a sample round is required before mass production.

What is involved in tin manufacturing from raw material to finished product?

Tin manufacturing starts with tinplate coils (cold-rolled steel sheet coated with a thin tin layer). The coils are cut into sheets, printed, lacquered, then formed and seamed into cans. Standard can bodies use 0.23 mm tinplate; thicker options (0.25 / 0.30 / 0.35 mm) are used for larger or industrial cans.

How do you print on tin cans without fading or scratching?

Tin cans are printed using offset printing on flat tinplate sheets before forming. After printing, a food-safe overcoat varnish is applied to protect against fading, scratching, and food contact. This method supports CMYK, Pantone colors, custom logos, and full-wrap artwork.

What printing layout files do you need for custom tin cans?

We accept AI / PDF / CDR vector files. The artwork must include a die-line (template), 3 mm bleed, and the safety area. For full-wrap designs, confirm the seam direction; for separate lid & base artwork, label "lid" and "base" clearly.

Do you offer custom tin plating thicknesses for industrial use?

Yes. Standard tinplate is 0.23 mm (food grade). For industrial or heavy-duty tins we offer 0.25 / 0.30 / 0.35 mm. All material is food-grade and BPA-free, certified to FDA and LFGB standards.
