Custom tin can manufacturing sounds complex, but once you understand the four stages — mold, printing, sampling and delivery — the process is straightforward. This guide walks through every step so you can source metal packaging with confidence.
Step 1: Choose the mold
A mold determines the shape, size and tooling cost of your tin. CNTINWORLD holds 8000+ ready-made molds across square, round, novelty and multi-piece formats, so most customers find an existing mold that fits their product without paying for new tooling. If no mold fits, custom tooling takes roughly 20–30 days and is amortized over your order quantity.
Step 2: Select materials and coating
Tin cans are made from tinplate (steel coated with tin). The coating thickness (gauge), inner lacquer and any protective layers depend on your product: tea and coffee need airtight seals, cosmetics benefit from non-reactive liners, and dry foods require food-grade inner coating. Your supplier should recommend the right specification for your contents and shelf life.
Step 3: Design and printing
Metal cans support offset printing, hot stamping (gold/silver foil), embossing, debossing, matte or glossy varnish and spot UV. Full-color litho printing gives the richest result, while hot stamping and embossing add a premium tactile feel. Send your artwork as print-ready files, or use AI-assisted packaging design to create mockups first.
Step 4: Sampling
Always sample before bulk. A sample lets you verify print color, lid fit, seal tightness and overall finish. From existing molds, samples typically ship in 7–15 days. Approve the sample, and bulk production starts with consistent quality checks at every stage.
Step 5: Delivery
Bulk orders are packed in export-grade cartons to prevent dents, with inner partitions for fragile products. Air and sea freight options cover global destinations, and our team handles documentation so you receive ready-to-sell packaging.
By choosing a factory that already owns the molds, you skip tooling wait and cost, compress the timeline and launch faster — exactly what CNTINWORLD is built for.
