Standard sizes: 4oz and 8oz
The most common candle tin sizes are 4oz (about 113g of wax) and 8oz (about 226g). Mini 2oz tins suit melts and travel candles; 12oz+ tins work for statement candles. Match the tin to your candle’s burn time target — a rough rule is one hour of burn per ounce of wax.
Check wick clearance and headspace
Ensure the tin height leaves enough headspace above the wax for the flame to burn safely without the glass or lid overheating. Taller tins suit taller wicks; shallow tins need low-profile wicks. Your wick supplier can confirm the right length for the tin depth.
Straight-sided vs curler tins
Straight-sided round tins are the classic choice — easy to label, stack and ship. Curler (tapered) tins have a retro profile that stands out, but check they fit your candle production equipment. Square candle tins are also available for a more modern look.
Lids, liners and printing
Choose lids with or without wick holes depending on your wick style. Food-grade inner coating prevents rust and protects the wax. Full-color printed labels or direct printing, plus embossed base logos, are the finishing touches that make a candle feel premium.
